Empower Your Physique: Women Strength Training Guide

Updated: Feb 1, 2024

Ladies I am here to tell you about the best way to transform your body and mind to reach the goals you’ve always wanted and that is by doing good old-fashioned weight training. Before you say it, no it will not make you masculine, nothing screams femininity more than a strong, curvy physique and that is exactly what you will get if you substitute the treadmill for the barbell. So today we will be breaking down why women have been misled about weight lifting and what muscles to empathize when building a strong hourglass figure, let’s begin

The she-hulk myth:

As a personal trainer of 7 years, I’ve consistently heard female clients say they don’t want to lift weights because they don’t want to look “masculine” and I’m here to tell you most men go to the gym and struggle to put muscle on. We men have close to twice the testosterone so I can ensure you a couple of weights a week will not turn you into Arnold. What lifting weights will do for you is give you the curves you always wanted and tighten up the core, giving an hourglass appearance and who doesn’t want that? Weightlifting also hosts several positive health and mental well-being benefits that can help you feel like your best self. So ladies what I am trying to say is you will be stupid not to take advantage of the weight training and today is the best time to start.

What muscles to train:

So now that we have covered that both men and women should be trained the same we can talk about the difference and the difference between men and women is what they tend to train. Typically train to get a v-taper so big arms, shoulders, and a wide back coupled with a smaller waist whereas women tend to go for bigger legs and a small waist. So here is the recommendation for the muscles to emphasize as a lady:

Hamstrings and glutes:

First off the combination of these two muscles will give a strong and curvy look to your physique and begin the building of the hourglass figure.

Exercise examples:

Back squats

Leg press

Romanian deadlift

Traps and lats:

I know what you’re thinking these muscles are typically associated with men but the reason this is a must for every lady is that having well well-defined back complied with strong legs will give the appearance of a smaller waist which is primarily genetic. Skipping out on training back is the female equivalent of skipping leg day and ladies you don’t want to be that person.

Exercise examples:

Lat pulldown

Pull-ups

Face pulls

Cable row

The triceps:

The final muscle is the triceps, this one is specifically important as women tend to store fat around the back of the arms giving the so-called “bingo wings look”. So let’s not neglect the triceps ladies they look great in a dress and they tie the physique together.

Exercise examples:

Tricep pulldown

Tricep dips

Conclusion

Ladies now is the time to get on to weightlifting and beat the stereotypes of cardio every day. Women get the best results from the gym when they push heavy weights and develop strong physiques so start today.
